Arkansas MGMA History

The Arkansas Medical Group Management Association was founded in 1972 to promote the group practice of medicine and provide professional development for practice management.

Initial founders of our organization were Gene Brooks of Hot Springs, Gene Minor and Tom Bryant of Little Rock, and John McCaleb of Fort Smith.

Over the years, the members of the Arkansas Medical Group Management Association have faced numerous changes in health care administration. The Arkansas Medical Group Management Association has provided strong participation in setting guidelines on legislative and tax issues, fee schedules, and wage and salary structures for the medical industry, as well as many other issues affecting both the provider and the patient.

As the issues surrounding health care became more diverse, the Arkansas Medical Group Management Association elected lobbyists within the membership to serve as the group's representation in dealing with government influenced issues, and began to promote the education and training of medical management staff to better support the administration of health care.

The Arkansas Medical Group Management Association has grown to more than 200 members, representing nearly 200 organizations. Today, we remain a progressive and pro-active resource to provide medical administration a forum to remain current on critical issues and trends influencing the management of the practice of medicine.
